HEA GAZETTES 1,966 ACCREDITED LEARNING PROGRAMMES FOR 2026

Higher Education Authority (HEA) has gazetted a total of 1,966 accredited learning programmes being offered by public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) in Zambia.

According to the 2026 Gazette list, 805 programmes are offered by public HEIs, while 1,161 are offered by private HEIs.

The list has been published in Gazette Notice No. 1279 of 2026, issued on Friday, 31st July 2026, in accordance with the Higher Education (Amendment) Act, 2021, which requires HEA to publish accredited learning programmes in the Government Gazette.

HEA Corporate Communications Officer, Birbal Musoba said the 2026 Gazette is organized according to institution category.

Mr. Musoba stated that the categories include public institutions for specialized training, public universities, the public technical university college, public colleges, private universities, private university colleges and private colleges.

“This Gazette is an important public reference point for students, parents, guardians, employers and the general public, as it provides the official list of learning programmes that have been accredited by HEA,” Mr. Musoba said.

He, however, cautioned the public against assuming that registration or recognition of a higher education institution automatically means that all its programmes are accredited.

“It is not enough for an institution to be registered or recognized. The specific learning programme must also be accredited,” he emphasized.

Mr. Musoba urged students and other members of the public to verify the accreditation status of a specific learning programme before enrolling.

“The specific learning programme must also be accredited. Therefore, the public is cautioned that before enrolling, always check,” he urged.

He said the publication of the 2026 Gazette is intended to promote informed decisions and protect students and the general public from enrolling in programmes that have not been accredited by HEA.
