Acting Northern Province Permanent Secretary says Nsama District is among the areas benefiting from increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations, with several infrastructure projects being implemented to improve service delivery and community livelihoods.
According to Beauty Undi-Phiri, the district has benefited from projects including street lights, a mortuary, theatre, maternity wing and a market shelter equipped with water and ablution facilities.
Ms. Undi-Phiri said CDF had enabled communities across the province to benefit from the construction of schools, health facilities, markets, street lights and other community projects.
“The increased CDF has facilitated the construction of schools, health facilities, markets, street lights and other community projects. Development should therefore, be prioritized over politics,” she said.
She noted that Kasama District has also recorded significant development, including the construction of about 11 health facilities, grading of roads such as Chilubula Road and the installation of street lights.
Ms. Undi-Phiri stated that the interventions have significantly changed the face of Kasama and improved access to essential services.
She further highlighted developments in the education sector, citing Soft Katongo Primary School in Kasama, which now has 14 computers and additional desks.
The Acting Permanent Secretary further said more than 97,551 desks have been distributed across Northern Province, helping to address shortages in schools.
She stressed that Government’s investment in free education was also yielding positive results, with Northern Province improving from eighth to third position in the latest examination performance rankings.
Ms. Undi-Phiri also said the expansion of the Social Cash Transfer programme has increased beneficiaries in the province from 68,000 to approximately 168,000.
She stated that beneficiaries have been able to use the funds to meet various household needs.
Ms. Undi-Phiri said development in Northern Province was also being supported by major investments outside CDF, including the Urban Hotel, airport infrastructure and Kasama Mall.
“Major investments such as the Urban Hotel and airport infrastructure, including the Kasama Mall, will contribute to the growth of the tourism sector and create opportunities for local communities,” Ms. Undi-Phiri noted.
She added that the construction of roads, health posts and schools, alongside increased support for social protection and education, was evidence of Government’s focus on addressing the needs of communities across the province.
