ZAMBIA PUSHES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS TO FAST-TRACK LOBITO CORRIDOR DEVELOPMENT

Minister of Transport and Logistics says Government wants to partner with stakeholders that will bring change to the Lobito Corridor and lead to actualization of the Project.

Frank Tayali stated that once developed, the Lobito Rail will unlock the country and the region, offering easy connection to western and eastern coastlines.

Mr. Tayali was speaking when Italian Ambassador to Zambia Enrico De Agostini paid a courtesy call on him.

“Government wants to leave no stone unturned in the quest to actualize the Lobito Corridor Development Project,” he said.

He noted that all regional transit routes converge in Zambia, thereby creating a true transport and logistics hub for the region.

And Ambassador Agostini noted that Zambia needs to consider working with big companies with global track record in order to row out the project.

He introduced Webuild SpA Commercial Director Stephen Muzu whose firm is interested to participate in the development of both the Lobito Corridor and the Kafue-Lions Den Railways development project.

Meanwhile, Mr. Muzu said Webuild SpA has changed the global development profile with a footprint in more than 50 countries worldwide.

The Lobito Corridor project is a strategic rail initiative backed by the US and EU, spanning over 1,300 km to connect the mineral-rich Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia to the Lobito port in Angola.

It aims to accelerate trade, speed up transit times six-fold, and provide a faster, western export route for critical minerals.
