ZESCO Limited has intensified sensitization campaigns on the Sustainable Electricity Supply for Southern Division (SESSD) Project, targeting communities in Eastern Province.
The project is aimed at providing 12,200 affordable electricity connections to low-income households and small businesses in Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Provinces.
As part of the campaign, ZESCO’s Corporate Affairs Team yesterday held sensitization meetings with traditional leaders in Nyimba and Petauke Districts ahead of customer engagement activities.
ZESCO said the programme will enable eligible customers to access electricity at a subsidized connection fee of K150.
“The SESSD Project is a major infrastructure and subsidized connection initiative aimed at providing 12,200 affordable electricity connections to low-income households and small businesses,” ZESCO said.
In Nyimba, the eligible areas are Mofu, Ndake, Chankhanga, Nyausali, Nyausali Kapusa, Katenthe and Mtendere, while in Petauke, the programme covers Chibisa, Livestock, Garden and Isaki.
To qualify, applicants must reside within 30 metres of a ZESCO pole, provide a copy of their National Registration Card (NRC) and submit a recommendation letter from the Chief.
“Eligible customers will pay only K150 for connection under the SESSD Subsidized Connection Programme,” the utility stated.
ZESCO added that the initiative is part of its efforts to increase access to affordable electricity and support community development through sustainable electrification.
