ZCTU PARTNERS WITH FSG ZAMBIA TO EASE WORKERS’ FINANCIAL BURDEN DURING BEREAVEMENTS

Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has entered into a partnership with Funeral Services Group (FSG) Zambia aimed at reducing the social and financial burden faced by workers during times of bereavement.

Through the initiative, workers and their families will have access to dignified funeral and welfare services designed to ease emotional and financial pressures that arise during loss, while also serving as an economic safety net for the working class.

Officiating at the launch of the partnership, Minister of Labour and Social Security Brenda Tambatamba applauded ZCTU for its continued vigilance and commitment to defending the rights of Zambian workers.

Ms. Tambatamba noted that as the umbrella body of the labour movement, ZCTU has been at the forefront of championing fair labour practices, equitable wages, and social justice.

“The partnership serves as a model for other innovative collaborations that enhance the quality of life for the citizens. It will contribute to government’s goal of building a comprehensive, resilient and people centred social security system that protects workers from many forms of vulnerability whether in retirement, illness, injury or bereavement,” Ms. Tambatamba stated.

She added that her Ministry stands ready to work closely with ZCTU and FSG to ensure the partnership succeeds and benefits workers across all sectors.

The Minister further revealed that government had signed into law Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 69 of 2025 on funeral expenses reimbursement, which was gazetted on Friday, 17th October, 2025.

She reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and promoting inclusive social protection for all citizens.

Speaking at the same event, ZCTU President Blake Mulala said the partnership marks a historic milestone for the labour movement.

“The partnership comes as a result of serious dialogue, strategic thinking and the vision shared to improve the welfare of the Zambian workers. This collaboration is not only for ZCTU members but also extends to government workers who wish to be part of it,” he said.

Meanwhile, FSG Zambia Chairman, Dr. Padmore Muleya assured ZCTU and government of his company’s commitment to delivering quality services to Zambian workers and the general public.

He encouraged his team to work closely with the ZCTU leadership to ensure that the shared objectives translate into meaningful outcomes for the benefit of every worker in the country.
