ZAMBIA HAS RECORDED POSITIVE ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OWING TO AGRIC, MINING SECTORS -ECONOMIST

An Economist has observed that agriculture and mining sectors have helped the country to record some positive performance so far this year.

Speaking in an interview with Money News, Kelvin Chisanga noted that with regards to agriculture, the country seems to be getting into some levels of bumper harvest this year owing to the favorable rainfall patterns.

Mr. Chisanga also noted that the mining sector has remained quite positive, resonating with some good performance, resulting in increased production.

“We have a number of emerging trends that we have so far witnessed, some of which are coming from the previous year, where we had a negative performance in a number of economic sectors. What we see on the table is that we still maintain a significant resistance of inflationary effects and challenging forex market.”

“Also looking at the issue of fiscal constraints as well as climate induced effects, we seem to have recorded some good elements around agriculture and we seem getting into some levels of bumper harvest this year and also in terms of trying to see other performing sectors like mining. We have seen that the mining sector remained quite buoyant and reverberating with some good performance upbeat which entails that agriculture and mining sectors have helped the country to record some good elements as we see,” Mr. Chisanga said.

He added that the performance of the two sectors entails that the country will be able to record potential numbers in terms of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) profile this year,as the mining industry has given a very good output in terms of production.

“With the performance in the first quarter, we seem to have a growth that has been triggered in a positive direction, and this is showing that we will be able to record some potential numbers in terms of the GDP profile this year, where we have seen that the mining sector has given a very good output in terms of production. We have also seen commitment in the agriculture sector,” he added.
