UK’S ECHO EIGHT PROPOSES TO DEPLOY 5,000MW OF RENEWABLE ENERGY WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF APPROVALS

Energy Minister has welcomed UK-based Echo Eight Investments Limited ’s proposal to deploy up to 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy within six months of approvals, stressing Zambia’s need for investors ready to deliver timely results.

Speaking at Zambia House in London, Makozo Chikote said Zambia’s long-term energy target is 9,000 megawatts.

Mr. Chikote underscored the country’s ambition to become a regional power hub through new interconnector projects.

He invited Echo Eight to establish clean energy operations in Zambia, as part of urgent efforts to end load shedding and attain energy security by December 2025.

And Ministry’s Director of Planning and Information, Mwape Chipala said the Government is prepared to fast-track processes for credible investors.

“Even a gigawatt of power could stabilize the national grid,” Mr. Chipala said.

Meanwhile, Echo Eight Founder David Green, assured Mr. Chikote that his company, backed by immediate capital, is ready to install solar, hybrid, and advanced storage systems, featuring patented 3D solar technologies and rooftop wind units.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of Mission Lubu Chibwe Nxumalo, Counsellor Economic Kasalika Mulenga, and First Secretary Trade Yvonne Zulu.

This is according to a statement released by First Secretary-Press at the Zambia High Commission in London, Speedwell Mupuchi.
