NO CHILD SHOULD PAY SCHOOL FEES UNDER FREE EDUCATION POLICY – GOVT

Ministry of Education has emphasized that no child should be required to pay fees for enrolment, tuition, or essential educational services in public schools, as the government continues to fully fund education under the Free Education policy.

Ministry Permanent Secretary for Education Services, Dr. Kelvin Mambwe, reaffirmed that the Free Education policy remains firmly in place, guaranteeing free access to education services for all learners and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and grow.

In a statement, Dr. Mambwe reassured parents and guardians that fees related to basic school materials, uniforms, or examinations are not compulsory within the framework of Free Education.

“Where any charges are encountered, they must be clearly justified, transparent, and within the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education,” Dr. Mambwe stated.

He urged communities to report any violations of the policy so that immediate corrective action can be taken.

“The government remains steadfast in monitoring and enforcing the Free Education policy across all levels of schooling, from early childhood through secondary education,” he stressed.

Dr. Mambwe further said the Ministry expects all teachers and school administrators to uphold the rights of learners to receive free, quality education and to provide the necessary support to ensure students remain engaged and continue progressing.

“We call on all parents and guardians to continue enrolling their children in school, recognizing that education is a powerful investment in the future.”

“By keeping children in school today, families contribute to a brighter, more prosperous Zambia tomorrow,” Dr. Mambwe said.
