Government has approved more K3.1 million of the 2026 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to be spent on sponsoring selected youths under the Secondary Boarding and Skills Development bursaries in Lumezi Constituency.
Lumezi Town Council Assistant Public Relations Officer/Spokesperson, Irvin Muyumbwa said the approval of K3,116,691.98 by Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development through the Eastern Provincial Local Government Office follows an application by the Constituency Development Fund Committee for the acceptance of the beneficiary lists.
Mr. Muyumbwa stated that from the lists, 111 pupils have been approved for sponsorship under the Secondary Boarding School bursary at a cost of K421,200, while 145 students have been placed under the Skills Development bursary costing K2,605,491.98.
“The approval of secondary boarding and skills development bursaries is made in accordance with Section 4(c) of the Constituency Development Fund Act No.1 of 2024,” he said.
He added that the approval has been granted for the training of six Chief Retainers in motorbike riding, following government’s initiative to procure motorbikes for purposes of easing and modernizing duties of traditional leaders.
“With the motorbikes being government property, users are required to acquire competence and be licensed, as such, the Local Authority is responsible for facilitating their licensing and training.”
“The public is also reminded that the CDF secondary boarding and skills development bursaries aim to increase access to education for vulnerable learners and promote youth employability through technical training,” Mr. Muyumbwa added.
Mr. Muyumbwa urged parents and guardians to ensure that the approved beneficiaries report to their various institutions as government will cover boarding and tuition fees, easing financial burdens on low-income households.
