Lusaka City Council Police in collaboration with the State Police, has seizer assorted alcoholic beverages from illegal traders at cemeteries.
This follows a joint operation conducted at four cemeteries in Lusaka, namely Chunga, Chingwere, Old Leopards Hill, and New Leopards Hill.
Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said during the operation which was conducted on 28th March, 2025, assorted alcoholic beverages were confiscated, while 12 illegal makeshift stands at Chunga and Chingwere cemeteries were demolished.
Ms. Mwamba however stated that no arrests were made as the illegal traders fled the scene.
“Residents should note that the Council’s operation of maintaining order and bringing sanity to public spaces is an ongoing exercise,” Ms. Mwamba said.
She advised all traders in the city to desist from conducting business in undesignated places such as cementries.
“The Lusaka City Council is committed to ensuring that all public areas, including cemeteries, are free from illegal activities and maintained with dignity and respect,” she added.
