Chama North Member of Parliament has described the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) loan recovery rate as a disaster.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Yotam Mtayachalo noted that most people who have accessed the CDF loans for empowerment purposes are not paying back, while the grants are not being put to good use.
Mr. Mtayachalo said the country needs a lot of resources which can go to productive sectors of the economy, unlike wasting funds on loans which are not being recovered.
“On the issue of CDF loans, recently there was a report in Parliament, it is a disaster because people are not paying back and even these grants are not being put to good use.”
“It is just individuals who are benefiting from these resources, we need a lot of resources which can go to productive sectors of the economy, instead of wasting resources on loans which are not being recovered,” Mr. Mtayachalo said.
He urged the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to go back to the drawing board and see whether the CDF loan facility is sustainable or if it is helping to create jobs and alleviate poverty.
