Kawambwa Town Council (KTC) says it will sponsor 458 students under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) skills bursaries in 2025 at an estimated cost of K10.6 million.
Council Public Relations Officer Joel Kashi told Money News that in Kawambwa Central Constituency, 245 youths have been approved to be sponsored to various TEVET institutions across the country at over K5 million, while in Pambashe constituency, 213 young people will be sponsored under CDF skills at a cost of K5.1 million.
Mr. Kashi stated that the 2025 skills bursaries approvals have seen a total of 74 females and 139 males to be sponsored under Pambashe constituency while 110 females and 145 males will be sponsored in Kawambwa Central Constituency.
He added that the CDF skills bursaries initiative is aimed at empowering youths in Kawambwa Central and Pambashe Constituencies by providing them with skills training and development opportunities.
“Skills bursaries encourage entrepreneurship, enabling youths start their own businesses, improving livelihoods by enabling them to access better-paying jobs, increasing their income and enhancing their overall well-being,” Mr. Kashi stated.
He further said sending of the approved youths to various TEVET institutions will play a crucial role in enhancing human capital, social cohesion, national development, access to education and building a better future for the youth of Kawambwa district.
“The selected students will pursue various courses among them; power electrical, metal fabrication, general agriculture, fashion and design, tailoring, automotive mechanics, carpentry, animal production, heavy duty equipment, engineering, house keeping and ICT among others.
“Government remains committed to ensuring that youths acquire skills, knowledge and competencies that will enable them become productive members of society and further help address unemployment among youths, reducing poverty and promoting economic growth,” he said.
