GOVT HANDS OVER K2.4 MILLION KATETE PRIMARY SCHOOL PROJECT

Government has handed over the K2.4 million Katete Primary School project, in Chibombo district, Central Province.

The project was funded by the Transearch Foundation through ChildFund Deutschland and implemented by ChildFund Zambia.

Officiating at the handover ceremony, Central Province Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa, described the development as a transformational milestone for both the school and the surrounding community.

“The electrification of classrooms and construction of teachers’ houses represent more than just infrastructure, they reflect our collective commitment to expanding access to quality education and improving the daily lives of learners and teachers,” he added.

Mr. Nkulukusa, who is also Katuba Member of Parliament, reaffirmed government’s dedication to ensuring that every child, whether in urban centres or rural villages, has access to a safe, modern, and inclusive learning environment.

The Minister said this in a speech delivered on his behalf by Chibombo District Commissioner, Lloyd Kayeka.

And Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr. Kelvin Mambwe stated that the initiative aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring equity, quality, and access to education for every learner.

Dr. Mambwe, who was represented by Ministry’s Director of Primary Schools Dr. Felix Ngoma, noted that the provision of modern teachers’ houses and electrified classrooms addresses two critical pillars of education delivery: teacher retention and digital readiness.

“When teachers have a dignified place to live, and when classrooms are powered and connected, teaching and learning improve significantly,” he stated .

He expressed gratitude to ChildFund Zambia, the Transearch Foundation, and all partners involved, highlighting the strength of public–private partnerships in advancing education.

And ChildFund Zambia Country Director, Victor Koyi described the project as a powerful example of how targeted investments can transform education and uplift entire communities.

“Education is at the heart of ChildFund Zambia’s work,” Mr Koyi said. “We invest in early childhood development, safe and inclusive learning environments, teacher support, and digital innovation.”

He explained that the organisation’s education programme focuses on expanding access to quality learning and ensuring that every child can progress through the school system free from violence, discrimination, and inequality.

At the same function, Katete Primary School Head Teacher, Renartus Mushibwe, praised the successful completion of the project.
