Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has urged all law enforcement officers and the public to reject all forms of bribery especially in Gender Based Violence (GBV) related cases.
According to a statement issued by ACC Corporate Communications Manager Timothy Moono, anyone found engaging in such corrupt practices will face the full force of the law.
Mr. Moono expressed the Commission’s concern over the rising number of bribery cases involving GBV, particularly those targeting young girls who are victims of defilement, rape, and other serious sexual offences.
“Some individuals, especially relatives of suspects have attempted, and in some cases succeeded, in bribing law enforcement officers to prevent the prosecution or secure the release of perpetrators.”
“Such acts not only obstruct the course of justice but also re-traumatize victims and fuel ongoing cycles of abuse,” Mr. Moono noted.
He stated that the heinous crimes are further aggravated by disturbing attempts to shield perpetrators through corrupt means.
Mr. Moono added that soliciting or accepting bribes in such sensitive cases is not only illegal but also a grave betrayal of public trust and a violation of the victims’ dignity.
“Such behaviour undermines national efforts to combat both corruption and gender-based violence,” he said.
He stressed that the fight against corruption is a shared national responsibility and urged all Zambians to actively resist and report corruption.
“We call upon all citizens to report any suspected corruption, especially in GBV-related cases, through the Commission’s anonymous online whistle-blower platform or by visiting any ACC office nationwide,” Mr. Moono added.
