Financial Analyst Projects 2% Drop in June Inflation

A Financial Analyst has projected a 2% decline in annual inflation rate for the month of June 2025.

Zambia’s annual inflation rate for May 2025 stood at 15.3%, down from 16.5% in April.

Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats), attributed the drop to price movements in both food and non-food items.

Specifically, annual food inflation fell to 17.9% from 18.7%, while non-food inflation also declined.

Speaking in an interview with Money News, Trevor Hambayi attributed the projected decline in inflation figures to the positive appreciation of the Kwacha this month.

Mr. Hambayi noted that one of the key drivers of inflation is the performance of the exchange rate, hence recent Kwacha gains will trigger a drop in June inflation rate.

“You will appreciate that one of our key drivers of inflation is the exchange rate in terms of where it is and we have seen the positive appreciation of the Kwacha in the month of June.’

“So essentially we expect that inflation will be dropping in the month of June and I expect a minimal 2% reduction in that inflation rate,” Mr. Hambayi said.

ZamStats is this Thursday expected to announce inflation figures for June, 2025.
