Government has delivered relief food and essential supplies to flood-affected residents in the Liyoyelo area of Mongu, Western province.
Western Province Permanent Secretary Simomo Akapelwa, accompanied by Mongu District Commissioner Morgan Akabeswa and other senior government officials led the emergency response team in the distribution exercise.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), Western Province Provincial Coordinator Agness Mwangala, who is overseeing relief operations in affected areas of the Province, was also part of the emergency response team.
The relief items include mealie meal, cooking oil, salt, chlorine, water purifiers and an assortment of other food supplies. This is aimed at supporting families affected by the floods and ensuring access to safe food and clean drinking water.
Speaking during the distribution, Mr. Akapelwa reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting citizens affected by natural disasters.
“Government will continue monitoring the situation and providing the necessary assistance to affected communities,” he assured.
And Mongu District Commissioner, Mr. Akabeswa urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the relief supplies while encouraging communities to continue working with government structures in responding to the flooding situation.
Meanwhile, Ms. Mwangala said the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit will continue coordinating humanitarian support and assessments to ensure that all affected families receive the necessary assistance.
The affected residents expressed gratitude to government for the intervention.
“The support will go a long way in helping families cope with the effects of the floods,” they said.
