GOVT URGES INVESTORS, TOURISTS TO TAP LUAPULA’S VAST UNTAPPED POTENTIAL

Government has called on investors and tourists to take advantage of Luapula Province’s vast and largely untapped natural resources, describing the region as a full package for economic growth and leisure.

Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Prudence Chinama-Kangwa noted that the region is endowed with perennial rivers and unique waterfalls that flow throughout the year, unlike seasonal attractions found in other parts of the country.

Speaking in Mansa, Mrs. Chinama-Kangwa cited Ntumbachushi Falls in Kawambwa, Mumbotuta Falls in Milenge, and Mumbuluma Falls in Mansa as some of the province’s natural gems that remain in their pristine state and are ready for investment.

“Our waterfalls are a marvel to look at. Please come, let us build Zambia together. We have lakes, rivers, beaches and game parks — Luapula has it all,” she stated.

She further highlighted Luapula’s tourism diversity, noting that scenic beaches are not only found in Samfya but also in Nchelenge and Chienge, all boasting white sandy beaches awaiting development.

Mrs. Chinama-Kangwa also pointed to Lusenga Plains National Park, home to the rare black lechwe found only in the Bangweulu Plains, as a key tourism and conservation asset.

On energy security, the Permanent Secretary assured investors that power supply has improved, citing the 50-megawatt Mansa Solar Plant in Mabumba, which is already evacuating 14 megawatts and is expected to be fully commissioned by April 2026.

“Government has also prioritized road infrastructure to improve accessibility across the province, including works on the Tuta Road, Musaila–Kasaba Road, Chienge–Nchelenge Road, and the Pedicle Road, the shortest route into Luapula, where contractors are currently on site,” Mrs. Chinama-Kangwa stressed.

She revealed that Luapula Province has received 32 percent of the national roads infrastructure allocation, underscoring government’s commitment to opening up the region for development.

“These efforts form part of preparations for the 2026 Luapula Expo, scheduled for 19th to 23rd April 2026 in Mansa, which is expected to be officially opened by President Hakainde Hichilema,” she added.

The Permanent Secretary reiterated that the Expo aims to attract investment, create jobs and unlock Luapula’s economic potential, while also encouraging investors to establish private and international schools to meet the growing demand for quality education.

“Come and see what Luapula has to offer. Take your holiday here, invest here, and let us grow the economy of Luapula and Zambia together,” Mrs. Chinama-Kangwa said.
